John Ebeling brings over four decades of unparalleled experience in professional and amateur basketball across Europe and the United States to the High School Basketball Portal. A former NCAA Division II Player of the Year and College Champion with Florida Southern College. John was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 1982. John’s lifelong commitment to the game has spanned coaching, international scouting, team management, and youth development.
After a successful 19-year professional playing career in the U.S., Italy, Spain, and Switzerland—including time with the Detroit Pistons Summer League—John transitioned seamlessly into leadership roles within European basketball. He has served as General Manager, Sports Director and International Scout for several top Italian teams.
As co-founder of Vis2008Ferrara, he helped build one of Europe’s premier youth programs.
John has also been an NBA-certified player representative and has completed advanced training in sports management and video analysis, with certifications from both the Italian Basketball Federation and Sports Management Worldwide.
John was inducted into the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame alongside legends like Phil Jackson, Earl Monroe, Dick Barnett, Willis Reed, and Jerry Sloan. John is widely respected for his strategic mind, talent identification, and passion for player development. His work has influenced athletes and executives at every level of the game, from NCAA to the NBA. In his book, TOUGHNESS, Jay Bilas described John as the toughest player he ever played against.
